Introduction

Rainy days & pretty much any other day where parents have nothing planned for their children, can be trying on the nerves. With every age, even infants & toddlers it is important to have a routine & to implement stimulating activities. As a former preschool teacher I worked primarily with infants & toddlers, and know the importance of providing the structure, and activities that are needed for young children to flourish emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

I earned my Bachelors of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Children’s Literature, from Cazenovia College (a small college about twenty miles outside of Syracuse NY). I started out as an Early Childhood Education major and switched majors just before graduating with my Associates degree. Upon graduating with my BA, I moved down to NC in June of 1997, and accepted a teaching position in a preschool working with toddlers ages 12 months - 24 months. I continued to work in the early childhood education field for seven years, earning my North Carolina Early Childhood Credentials I & II, along with workshops and training’s, and the Level III Administration Credentials. As much as I enjoyed working in the classrooms, I was offered the Assistant Director position at the school I was teaching at, and within a year was offered the Director position at another location. While working for a preschool that is nationally accredited and holds one of the first Five Star Licenses in the state of NC, there were high standards to maintain, which gave me the opportunity to learn a great deal, as well as put to use the experience & knowledge that I already possessed.

Upon the birth of my daughter in 2005, I made the decision to leave the work force and stay at home full time; a year later, in August of 2006 my husband & I welcomed the birth of our second child, our son. While I no longer work directly in the childcare setting, I am still very much involved in the field, and the new developments and research regarding early childhood education. In addition to blogging, I am conducting workshops focusing on a variety of topics regarding early childhood education. Now that my children are a little older I am finding it a little bit easier to make time to do the things that I enjoy - but that is another post in its self!
