TriangleMommies: A great online community for parents

Whether you are a stay-at-home parent or you are a working parent, everyone needs a support system. Ten years ago this July, my husband & I made the decision to move to North Carolina. It was a bold move, considering we just graduated from college & were leaving our families & friends - our support systems in New York State and heading out into the great unknown.

A year and a half ago, we welcomed the birth of our first child - Josie - and it was brought to our attention again, that besides the good friends we have made living in NC, our family support is hundreds of miles away. Many families in this area are in the same situation. Today, so many people are making the decision to move away from their families - their support systems - whether it is for a job, a new career, change of pace … not everyone is near a support network.

Before Josie was born, Tom & I made the choice to raise our children in a single income home. We have made sacrifices, however we wouldn’t change a thing; We are very happy & fortunate that we are able for me to stay at home with our children. However, I quickly learned that it was going to be an adjustment not only financially, but emotionally.

I didn’t have the everyday adult interaction that I had while I was working. And to add to the changes, when Josie was 4 months old, we found out we were pregnant again! My husband is a great source of support, however I needed something else … I needed to reach out to other stay-at-home parents that were going through or had gone through some of the same things I was. After perusing the internet I found a few sites that provided me with parenting information and post partum issues; however I didn’t find any groups that I felt connected to - that is until I was pointed in the direction of TriangleMommies (trianglemommies.com).

TriangleMommies (TM) is a free parenting site for stay-at-home moms & working moms. The TM community provides many different forums from domestic issues, parenting infants, toddlers, preschoolers, to home-schooling, & play-groups (play-groups for several of the surrounding areas) and community events & happenings. Through TM I have found parenting support and support as a wife and as a woman.

If you live in the Triangle, whether you are a native to the area or a recent transplant, if you are looking to meet other parents, take part in community play-groups & charity events, check out TM … meeting new people can be difficult and scary, but I encourage you to take the first step & check out our close nit community - even with over 1000 members we are a family.

For the stay-at-home dads & working dads in Triangle area, TriangleDads just opened its (internet) doors …. tell all the fathers you know to check them out!
