Preschool Activities - Things to do when you just don't know what to do

There are so many free & inexpensive things to do around the community. However, sometimes all you need to do to engage your young child in a stimulating activity is to open your kitchen cupboards or swing open the back door!

For many stay at home parents, & working parents as well - it isn’t possible to spend money on every activity you do with your child. For my family, we enjoy the bounce houses, museums, the zoo, ice cream socials …. sometimes though we find the best treasures in our homes.

Below you’ll find simple activities you can do in your own home for a minimal amount of money & prep. time:

Make Your Own T-Shirt! Grab one of your own plain t-shirts or purchase plain white t-shirts & a couple different color fabric paints. Let your child design their own “t”! This a fun project that can be done outside or inside!

Make At Home Play-Dough 1/4 cup salt

1 cup flour

1/4 cup water

Have your child mix the flour and salt in a bowl then add water. Knead and squeeze the dough to make a clay consistency. You may need to add more water. Note: This dough doesn’t last as long as the cooked recipes.

Ideas Divide into sections, then knead in food coloring (liquid or paste). Kids love making the white play dough change colors. Use unsweetened Kool-Aid for color and scent. Add glitter for sparkly play dough. Even if the consistency doesn’t come out exactly - this is STILL an excellent sensory activity Kiddin’ Around

Dinning In The Outdoors Bring your breakfast for lunch outside! — On the deck @ the table, or on a picnic blanket in the front yard. Talk about the foods you are eating, the weather, insects you see on the ground, the shapes of the clouds in the sky.

The Little Chef USE THAT IMAGINATION. Cook or bake with your child. Simple dishes or bake a cake using a $2 cake mix topped with powered sugar! OR simple PRETEND! Break out the pots & pans & pretend you & your child are teaching a cooking class!
